Read Chainsaw Man Chapter 158, Spoiler And Raw Release Date

rakyatnesia.com – Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto appears to be on the brink of the long-foreshadowed apocalypse, as suggested in various instances throughout Part 2 of the manga. The escalation of power seen in the War Devil, Yoru, indicates an imminent fulfillment of the prophesied conflict. In Chapter 158 of CSM, titled “Gyohnee Guillotine,” this anticipation gains more weight as devils engage directly with humanity, striving to liberate Chainsaw Man from captivity.

With Nayuta still missing, it’s apparent that Fujimoto is hinting at the loss of control in society as conflict erupts in the streets. Amidst it all, Denji has been captured by Public Safety, and kept as their prisoner as punishment for becoming Chainsaw Man. Chapter 158 picks up with Asa and Fami having infiltrated the Tokyo Devil Detention Center, as they continue to search for Chainsaw Man, meeting some unexpected – and mostly unwanted – allies along the way.

Who Did Fami Summon at the End of CSM Chapter 157?

In Order to Protect Asa, Fami Summons the Guillotine Devil As One of Her Pawns

When Asa tripped at the end of the previous chapter, she gave up she and Fami’s position to an entire group of guards. With no other choice, Fami was forced to use her power to summon a devil, and that devil turned out to be the Guillotine Devil. The Guillotine Devil is a terrifying looking monstrosity, as many Devils in Chainsaw Man tend to be. It takes on the appearance of an incredibly tall raven, with large sprawling wings and a huge bird-like head.

Instead of the body of a bird beneath its wings though, the Guillotine Devil’s body consists of a dark black void with only the blade of a guillotine and a human skeleton dangling inside it. The Guillotine Devil is so tall that it can’t even stand upright in the Devil Detention Center, causing it to constantly have its head cocked to the side to avoid hitting the ceiling. The Guillotine Devil is also unable to communicate using human speech, instead choosing to obnoxiously squawk like a bird at any opportunity.

There Are Unknown Limitations to Fami’s Power

Fami Might Only Be Able to Use Her Power A Set Number of Times

An interesting development that came from Chapter 158 is the notion of Fami’s limitations. When she summons the Guillotine Devil, it quickly becomes apparent that it lacks the kind of firepower both Fami and Asa would have hoped. Not only that, but when Asa asks Fami why she didn’t use her power sooner, Fami explains that there are restrictions on her ability. Of course, she’s unwilling to share her exact limitations with Asa, likely to prevent Yoru from taking advantage of her weaknesses.

Nevertheless, just by this interaction alone, at least two limitations of her power become clear. The first is that the Devils she summons aren’t at their full strength. Even though Guillotines are not quite as feared by human society in the 90s (when Chainsaw Man takes place) as they would be in 18th century France, the Guillotine Devil should nonetheless be quite powerful. While he does prove strong enough to take bullets like they’re nothing and slice up all the Public Safety guards’ weapons, his inability to kill is almost certainly a result of Fami’s limited power. Fami tells Asa that the Devils she summons are weak, though she doesn’t explain whether there’s a specific reason for that. It may be that by starving the Devils she controls, she automatically makes them weaker than they usually would be. This makes perfect sense considering that a Devil who drinks a lot of blood has far more strength than one who is malnourished.

The second limitation that Fami’s power seems to have is that she may only be able to summon a certain number of Devils in a set period. This would explain why she was so hesitant to use her ability, because she may not be able to use it again for quite some time. If that is indeed the case, then Asa and Fami will be stuck relying on the weakened version of the Guillotine Devil to help them throughout the rest of their mission, as Fami would be unable to summon any more of her pawns.

Asa is Getting Stronger On Her Own

Asa Shows That She Can Hold Her Own Without Yoru’s Help

Even though there are restrictions on Fami’s power, the War Devil is getting more than strong enough to handle things on her own. More surprisingly, Asa herself is also getting stronger, even without the help of Yoru’s power. This was shown when, after the guards were disarmed by Guillotine, one attempted to attack Asa, but she parried his attack before Yoru took over and knocked him out. Asa attributed this impressive feat to her having to constantly fight, thus picking up some combat skills of her own apart from what Yoru provides.

Up until this point, Asa seemed to be constantly in need of saving, and could barely handle anything on her own. This moment goes to show that Asa, despite being as clumsy as ever, has begun to change and grow stronger alongside the War Devil. Additionally, Yoru is even willing to praise Asa’s ability, potentially showing how Yoru herself may be coming to respect Asa as an individual. Despite the two sharing a brain and body, they have constantly been at war with one another, but Asa might finally be starting to rub off on Yoru, and vice versa.

Fami Put the Devil Hunter Club in a Terrible Situation

The Devil Hunter Club is Understandably Terrified of Fami After All She Put Them Through

Aside from defeating the Public Safety guards, Guillotine’s attack also happened to have an effect on the surrounding area as well — destroying the prison doors in the general vacinity. Little did Asa and Fami know that behind one of those prison doors lied Haruka Iseumi, Seigi Akoku and Nobana Higashiyama, the remaining members of the Devil Hunter Club from their school.

Upon first being released from their prison, Iseumi acts surprised to see that Fami has come to help them escape. He tells her that he would rather she just leave the group alone, as she has already ruined their lives enough. Apparently, at some point when the Chainsaw Man Church was being cracked down by Public Safety, the members of the Devil Hunter Club were all arrested and detained as domestic terrorists. The three blame Fami for this, and express deep regret for having listened to her to begin with. However, Asa makes sure to correct Iseumi’s confusion by informing him that they weren’t there to save those “losers”, they actually came to rescue Chainsaw Man.

The Devil Hunter Club Joins The Chainsaw Man Rescue Mission

After Learning That Asa is Trying to Save Chainsaw Man, The Devil Hunter Club Joins Her Group

Despite the genuine fear of Fami that the Devil Hunter Club members all share, there’s one thing in their lives that will always help them overcome any fear, and that’s Chainsaw Man. As soon as Iseumi hears Asa mention that they’re on a mission to rescue Chainsaw Man, his entire demeanor changes. The chapter ends with Asa realizing that the Devil Hunter Club has begun following her and Fami, without either of their permission.

It’s not just as simple as the Devil Hunter Club wanting to help save Chainsaw Man either. Iseumi specifically expresses excitement over simply seeing or meeting Chainsaw Man, making it very likely that rescuing him comes second to seeing him in action. This ironically draws parallels to Fumiko’s treatment of Denji in Chapter 156, “Woop Woop Woop Woop Bzzz Split Split”, when she says that she wants to collect Denji’s nails and hair before they hand him over to get dismembered because she is a collector of Chainsaw Man memorabilia. This shows the disconnect between human beings and the objects of their idol worship. As a fan of Chainsaw Man, Denji as a person means nothing to someone like Fumiko, she only wants to idolize the imaginary version of him rather than respect the human version of him in real life. This may very well be the case with Iseumi and the Devil Hunter Club as well, though it’s yet to be seen how they’ll actually react when they meet the object of their infatuation.
